From October 6th to 10th, a delegation from the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute (LVRI) attended the 23rd World Poultry Congress in Kuching, Malaysia. The team was led by Professor Qiyun Zhu, who serves as the Deputy Director of LVRI and is the Principal Investigator of the Team for Molecular Ecology of Animal Viruses. He was accompanied by Professor Ganggang Qu, as well as PhD candidates Wentao Shen and Dan Wang. All team members actively participated in the congress. At the World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) Congress 2025, Professor Zhu delivered a presentation titled “Development of Genotype Ⅶ Newcastle Disease Vaccine to Differentiate the Infected from Vaccinated Animals (DIVA)”, which introduced the team’s latest findings in the development of Newcastle disease DIVA vaccine and diagnostic techniques. PhD candidates Shen and Wang respectively presented their academic posters titled “A nucleoprotein-specific nanobody inhibits various avian influenza virus replication” and “On-site rapid and specific detection of novel emerging goose astrovirus using a nanobody-based colloidal gold immunochromatographic strip”, engaging in extensive discussions with other participants. During the congress, the delegation had broad exchanges with Professor Abdul Rahman Omar (Congress Chair), Professor Munir Iqbal (The Pirbright Institute, UK), Doctor Regis Vialle (Seppic, France), as well as Chinese counterparts and other experts, focusing on new ideas and technologies for avian disease prevention and control. At the congress, the Team for Molecular Ecology of Animal Viruses presented the institute's cutting-edge achievements in avian disease research to the global community. The event also served as a platform for the team to gain insights into the latest technologies, methods, and products for avian disease prevention and control from around the world. Building on this opportunity, the team is committed to focusing on the needs of poultry health and the farming industry, with plans to accelerate the generation and translation of innovative research findings. The WVPA Congress is one of the most influential international platforms in the global poultry sector. It not only attracts researchers in avian disease research from around the world but also brings together experienced professionals from the poultry industry, serving as a vital bridge for international exchange and cooperation in this field. WVPA Congress 2025 was organized by Professor Omar from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) under the theme of “Sustainable Healthy Poultry for a Healthier World”, aiming to exchange cutting-edge technologies, share research findings, and discuss the latest advances in poultry health and production. More than 1800 participants from approximately 70 countries, including experts and technical professionals from renowned universities, research institutes, and enterprises in the poultry industry, attended the congress.
