From 3th to 4th August 2022, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute (LVRI) and National Veterinary Research Institute of Poland (PIWet-PIB) jointly held “Control of animal diseases workshop” and renewed the contract “Letter of agreement between Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute (LVRI), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the National Veterinary Research Institute (PIWet-PIB), established LVRI-PIWet-PIB Joint Laboratory for Animal Disease Control” with Poland. Deputy Director Qiyun Zhu presided over the opening ceremony. On behalf of the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Director General Haixue Zheng delivered the welcome speech and reviewed the cooperation achievements of the joint laboratory in the past five years and later signed the cooperation agreement of the joint laboratory with Director General Krzysztof Niemczuk of the National Veterinary Research Institute (PIWet-PIB) virtually. Director General Haixue Zheng wished that two institutes could draw on each other's strengths through academic communication, and reinforce the cooperation to contribute to the prevention and control of animal diseases for two countries. Subsequently, Deputy Director Qiyun Zhu and Deputy Director Miroslaw Polak introduced the development and cooperation background of the two institutes respectively. The two-day presentation was hosted by Prof. Qingli Niu, Dr. Wen Dang and Prof. Miroslaw Polak. The purpose of this workshop is to improve the joint research level of two institutes in the field of major animal diseases, and to enhance the monitoring, prevention and control capacity of major animal diseases. This workshop enables each other to have a deeper understanding of their research fields and scientific research strength. A total of 80 experts, containing 15 from Poland and 65 from China attended the workshop. Therefore, 17 Chinese and Polish researchers presented academic progress on important animal diseases, such as foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever, animal influenza, lumpy skin disease, Echinococcosis, and so on. During the discussion stage of the workshop, both parties reached an agreement on further cooperation, to strive jointly applying for international cooperation projects in the fields of African swine fever and lumpy skin disease, and discussed how to implement mutual visits of scientific researchers and joint training of graduate students.
