There are two OIE Reference Laboratories in LVRI: one is OIE&China National Foot-and-Mouth Disease Reference Laboratory, which was established in 2002 according to instruction from the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) of P.R China. In 2011, the World Assembly of Delegates of the OIE confirmed the designation of LVRI as a new OIE Reference Laboratory for FMD. The laboratory is engaged in studies of etiological biology, epidemiology, pathology, immunology, diagnostics and development of vaccine of FMD. In 2013, the World Assembly of Delegates of the OIE confirmed the designation of LVRI as a new OIE Reference Laboratory for Ovine theileriosis. Prof. Hong Yin is the head of the laboratory and the OIE designated expert. The laboratory functions including ovine theileriosis isolation and identification, molecular detection, epidemiological surveillance, et al. On the basis of the confirmative tests, providing the epidemiological analysis report and risk assessment.
