Prof. Jie Zhang and other two staff went to Poland to conduct Sino-Polish Inter-governmental Science and Technology Cooperation Projects

During June11-16, 2017,on the invitation of Mr. Krzysztof Niemczuk, general director of National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI or PIWeT-PIB),Pulawy, Poland,Prof. Jie Zhang, associate Prof. Haotai Chen and assistant Prof. Jianhua Zhou visitedPoland and held academic exchanges. During the visit, each person delivered an academic lecture. In addition, they also discussed with polish scientists about establishing theimmunohistochemistry diagnosis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infections and evaluatingthe efficacy of the commercially available ELISA kits for serological detection of PRRSV infection and monitoring antibody level elicited by vaccine immunization.

On 12th,in NVRI,under the host of Dr. ArturRzezutka, Head of Department of Food and Environmental Virology,Dr.Haotai Chendelivered a lecture titled《Longitudinal Comparison of Antibody Responses to Donor HCMV Infected Silently Five Years Later》. He introduced how to directly screen the cells secreting the specificmonoclonal antibodies against human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) from the peripheral blood with high-throughput methods and then prepare the single-chain antibodies. A new epitope was found after probing the binding patterns of such antibodies with HCMV. Then Dr.Jianhua Zhou delivered a lecture titled《Genotype and host-dependent patterns of codon usage in hepatitis E virus》. Heintroduced the characteristics of HEV currently presenting the genetic diversity and the role of host animals in genetic evolution. After the presentations, under the guidance of Dr. ArturRzezutka, they visited NVRI located in Pulawyand learned more about the duties and functions of the institute in Poland. NVRI, established in June 1945, is affiliated to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Poland. It is the center for monitoring and supervising animal epidemic diseases, such as African Swine Fever prevailing in some area of Poland now, and zoonoses such as influenza and tuberculosis. It is also the hygiene research center for food of animal origin and animal feed. It is the base for development and evaluation of biological agents, such as vaccines and diagnostic kits. NVRI also takes important roles in culturing veterinary graduates (masters and PhDs) and training veterinary professionals. NVRI provides the expertise and consultancy for the MARD and veterinary inspection.NVRI plays very important roles in the process of animal infectious diseases prevention and control in Poland and even in Europe. On 13th,under the organization of Polish Academy of Sciences academician Pejsak, Prof. Jie Zhang andthe other two stuffheld a face-to-face discussion and information exchange with experts working on bacterial infectious diseases, chlamydia, foodborne pathogens and swine diseases and further searched for future cooperation projects. On 14th,led by academician Pejsak, they went to visit College of Veterinary Medicine, Warminsko-Mazurski w Olsztynie Universityand had an academic exchange. Prof. Jie Zhang presented a lecture titled 《Zoonoses: current situation and control strategies in China》.

Through the extensive academic exchanges,Prof. Jie Zhang and other two scientistsdeeply probed with polish scientists the key points in the field of research on virus diseases leading to swine reproduction disorder andhow to complementadvantages each other. Such a wealth of background information exchanges will create more opportunity for further international scientific cooperation between the two institutes. Their visit also strengths sino-polish friendship and boosts the development of Animal Disease Prevention and Control LVRI-PIWeT-PIB Joint-Lab established in July 2016 when general director of NVRI and prof. Pejsak visited our institute last year. Their visit was funded by Sino-Polish Inter-governmental S&T Cooperation Project entitled“Development of immunohistochemistry for differential diagnosis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infections and usefulness of commercially available ELISA tests for serological detection of PRRSV infection” (Project Number:36-10) .
